AGENTS OF CHAOS

Experience the Sound

When did you start DJing?

I started producing at the tender (absolutely chaotic) age of 12, throwing 300
samples into GarageBand, making it 7 minutes of the same thing, and calling it a
masterpiece (it was hot garbage). It became my hobby/absolute obsession
because of a few different factors. I was a dancer starting at 8 years old, so I
loved how music made me move. I also came across a video game called SSX3
that introduced me to some of the best electronic music I’ve ever heard, with
“Emerge (Junkie XL Remix)” by Fischerspooner and “Go” by Andy Hunter being
the songs that inspired me to get into production.
I didn’t get into DJing until I was about 15-16. Some of my first ever parties were
DJing the afterparty for the Stratford Festival season, my hometown theatre, so I
got thrown into understanding crowd work fairly quickly.

What track, moment, or influence changed everything for you? / What’s your biggest source of inspiration?  (The one that made you say “this is it.”)

Oh my god, I feel pretty lucky to say I’ve had a few moments that really inspired
me. But I think one of the biggest moments was the moment I fell in love with
my own music. My song “Thinkin’ of U” was one of the first moments I had the
proper translation of what I heard in my head, to what I put into the DAW. I
actually cried when I finished the arrangement.

Describe your sound or artistic style in 3 words.

Sexy, energetic, outgoing.

What’s your go-to outfit for a show? (Details, please.)

My outfit will always be something I can move in. My current preference is the
baggier the better, so Im wearing XL-XXL shirts, super baggy pants or jeans that
are comfortable. I’ll try to make them stylish with cool prints or patterns but
that’s the general structure.

Do you dress to blend in or stand out? (And why?)

I just naturally stand out for being tall af (Im 6’3”, 6’4” on a good day). But I
dress to stand out mostly, but def not all the time. Sometimes blending in is nice
when you’re overstimulated.

What’s one non-negotiable before you hit the stage? (A ritual, a snack, a moment?)

A non-negotiable? After being on tour with Rêve, my non-negotiables have
changed to psyllium husk pills. Also some healthy food. I know Im boring, but
my tummy is sensitive.
I love a good drink tho backstage before hitting the stage, but it’s def not
needed for me to do what I do.

One or two artist who are always in your sets or you always come back to for inspiration.

Hate to be this guy, but it’s all of them. Any set I’ve watched, I find inspiration
from it. While being very free flowing as a person, Im quite analytical to this
industry and really try to learn as much as I can by just observing.
If there’s a set I reflect on the most, its Madeon at History when he performed in
2023

What inspires your style off-stage?(Street, vintage, trends, whatever.)

I wear what I would wear on stage out in the world (unless it’s a sweats day). I
wanna be presenting as Slater Manzo as often as I can, so why change it?

What do you wish more people understood about being a DJ? (Give us the real talk.)

Okay, real talk. This shit is fucking hard y’all. You’re battling with thousands of
others in the same field, all wanting the same dream of being a successful music
producer and DJ. Everyone will give you advice on what to do with your
production, how to present yourself, how to act, what to know, and who to
know. The reality of it is, and it’s so cheesy as fuck, you just have to be yourself,
and you GOTTA HAVE FUN WITH IT. The biggest compliment I get is how my
energy is infectious. They see me dancing and vibing to the music, and they
start doing the same. No shade to the people I’ve opened for in the past, but
I’ve been told a few times now that I should have the main slot instead. Thats
what I bring to the table with my DJ sets. Good music, good vibes, and a real
smile to go with it.

If your sound had a color, what would it be?(And why?)

You cannot do this to someone who loves colour. But really, it is indigo.

What do you represent?

To be an outgoing queer DJ in the scene, known for inclusion and representing
all spectrums of EDM and house music through all forms.
